BYU research team find rates of Alzheimer’s gene is four times higher in Pacific Islanders

A BYU led-study found 25% of their Pacific Islander sample had the APOE ε4 allele, which is known to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease. For comparison, the frequency among African Americans is about 12% and among European Americans, 6%. The team presented their findings this week at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Amsterdam.

BYU study: Women’s involvement in U.N. peace negotiations essential for long-term security

Research has shown that the best predictor of a nation’s level of peace is how well its women are treated. Women also play an important role in directly brokering peace: when women are at the table, peace agreements are 35% more likely to last at least 15 years. Unfortunately, a landmark U.N. Security Council resolution on women, peace and security is somewhat toothless, according to a recent analysis led by BYU law researchers.
