Festivity, fun and inspiration are everywhere this holiday season, especially at BYU.

Whether you're seeking a family-friendly activity, an enthralling musical experience or a classic Christmas film, there's an event at BYU that's just right for you. 

FUN FOR ALL AGES

Christmas in Nauvoo: Family Home Evening, free
When: Monday, Nov. 28 and Dec. 5
Time: 6-9 p.m. 
Location: Education in Zion Gallery, Joseph F. Smith Building, BYU
Details: Visit various activity stations in the gallery to learn how Christmas was celebrated in the nineteenth century. Caroling, craft activity, refreshments.

Christmas at the MOA: Nativity, free
Date: Friday, Dec. 2
Time: 7-10 p.m.
Location: Museum of Art, BYU
Details: Enjoy a festive, art-focused evening at the BYU Museum of Art this holiday season, featuring artist Brian Kershisnik, who will speak about his painting Nativity. With refreshments, Christmas music and interactive activities, a good time is sure to be had by all!

MUSIC + CONCERTS

Christmas Around the World: Festival!
When: Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3
Time: 7:30 p.m.; 2 p.m. Saturday matinee
Where: Marriott Center, BYU
Location: Featuring BYU’s International Folk Dance Ensemble and Living Legends, this holiday tradition showcases the rich ethnic diversity of the world through music and captivating choreography, featuring more than 200 dancers, singers and musicians.

TubaChristmas, free
Date: Saturday, Dec. 3
Time: noon
Location: Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, BYU
Details: Musicians that are usually relegated to the back row of the band or orchestra will have their opportunity to shine at the 36th annual Utah TubaChristmas concert. The unusual sound of a choir of tubas, baritone horns and euphoniums will delight audiences with a rich, warm and all-engulfing sound. The concert includes performances by a massive tuba-euphonium ensemble of over forty musicians, the BYU Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, BYU Tuba Quartet and the BYU Jazz Legacy Band.

Celebration of Christmas
When: Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3
Time: 7:30 p.m.; 3 p.m. Saturday matinee
Location: de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, BYU
Details: The BYU combined choirs and Philharmonic present their annual concert celebrating the sounds of the holiday season. Featuring performances by BYU Singers, Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus and BYU Philharmonic.

Consortium Ensemble Christmas Concert, free
Date: Thursday, Dec. 8
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Museum of Art, BYU
Details: An evening of a capella choral music featuring a variety of holiday tunes. The Consortium Ensemble is one of Utah’s premiere a capella groups, made up primarily of alumni from BYU Singers and BYU Vocal Point.

BYU Planetarium: The Star of Bethlehem
Date:
 Friday, Dec. 2
Time: 7 and 8 p.m.
Location: Eyring Science Center, 4th Floor, BYU
Details: Come to BYU's Royden G. Derrick Planetarium and join the BYU Astronomical Society to learn about the astronomical events consistent with the Christmas star.
Ages: 8+ (it's a somewhat technical demonstration)
Tickets: $2 at the door, cash or check only

 

Adventsingen, free
Date: Sunday, Dec. 4
Time: 8 p.m.
Location: de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, BYU
Details: Adventsingen is a program of traditional German, Austrian and Swiss Christmas music, paired with German-language scripture readings about the birth of Christ. This year marks the 42nd anniversary of the popular event that immerses the audience in beautiful seasonal music and the rich cultural traditions of German-speaking countries.

Christmas Hymn Sing, free
Date: Wednesday, Dec. 14
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Room 4420, Harold B. Lee Library, BYU
Details: Each month the library welcomes music lovers to join in a hymn sing. December’s theme is Christmas.

FLIM AND TELEVISION SHOWINGS

Remember the Night, free
When: Friday, Dec. 2
Time: 7 p.m.
Where: Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium, BYU
Details: A prosecuting assistant district attorney takes sympathy on a shoplifter who is on trial during the Christmas holidays, and his softened heart gradually threatens his career.

Sometimes celebrating the season means staying at home and watching television. BYUtv is your source for entertainment the whole family can watch together. Watch the heartwarming BYUtv original holiday special Winter Thaw: a story of a grieving shoemaker in late 19th-century Russia as he learns to trust in the goodness of God, starring John Rhys-Davies.

If music is more your jam, tune in for BYUtv’s Christmas Under The Stars concerts, featuring artists like Amy Grant, Michael Smith, Peter Hollens, Ryan Innes, Lexi Walker and BYU Vocal Point.

And of course, you can't miss the Studio C Christmas Special, December 5 at 8 p.m.
