Every Tuesday at 11:05 a.m., students, faculty, staff and the greater BYU community attend the weekly devotional or forum address in the BYU Marriott Center.
Most devotionals and forums will be broadcast live on BYUtv, BYUtv.org (and archived for on-demand streaming), KBYU-TV 11, Classical 89 FM and BYUradio and will be archived on speeches.byu.edu.
Please plan to join students and employees each Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a truly unique experience as the campus gathers to receive spiritual and temporal edification.

About the Winter 2025 Speakers
President C. Shane Reese
January 14, Devotional
President C. Shane Reese was named BYU’s 14th president March 21, 2023. He had been serving as the academic vice president at BYU since 2019. He previously served as dean of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences from 2017 to 2019 and joined the BYU statistics faculty in 2001.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in statistics from BYU and a doctoral degree in statistics from Texas A&M. His research has focused on sports analytics, Bayesian hierarchical models and optimal experimental design. He is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Laboratory.
President Reese has used his work in solving problems in professional sports franchises, national security and business. At BYU, he received the BYU Young Scholar Award, and the BYU Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Teaching Award. He was also the Melvin W. Carter Professor of Statistics. Prior to BYU, he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a technical staff member.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taiwan Taipei Mission from 1990 to 1992. He is currently serving as the first counselor in the Mapleton Utah North Stake, where he previously served as a bishop. He and his wife, Wendy Wood Reese, are the parents of three children.
Wendy Reese

Wendy Wood Reese was born and raised in the small town of Holden, Utah, as the fourth of five children. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from BYU in 1995.
Sister Reese is known for her kindness, and she can often be found delivering treats to others. She loves baking and has her own side business making wedding cakes when she can find time from her other responsibilities. Sister Reese comes from a BYU family and loves the university and all it stands for.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
January 21, Devotional
Elder Gary E. Stevenson was sustained to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles Oct. 3, 2015. At the time of his call to the Twelve, he had been serving as the Presiding Bishop of the Church since April 2012.
He cofounded an exercise equipment manufacturing company, ICON Health & Fitness, Inc., where he served as president and chief operating officer until 2008. He was also involved in numerous civic activities and has served on various boards and advisory councils.
Jeffrey Rosen

Jeffrey Rosen is the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, where he hosts, "We the People," a weekly podcast of constitutional debate. He is also a professor of law at the George Washington University Law School and a contributing editor of The Atlantic. He was previously the legal affairs editor of The New Republic and a staff writer for the New Yorker.
Rosen’s new book is "The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America." His other books include the New York Times bestseller "Conversations with RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty, and Law" as well as biographies of Louis Brandeis and William Howard Taft.
Elder Kevin R. Duncan

Elder Kevin R. Duncan was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 3, 2010. At the time of his call, he had been serving as a member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy in the Utah South Area. He is currently serving at Church headquarters as Executive Director in the Temple Department.
Elder Duncan received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in taxation and a juris doctor from Brigham Young University in 1991.
Elder Ricardo P. Giménez
February 11, Devotional
Elder Ricardo P. Giménez was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 6, 2019. He currently serves at Church headquarters in the Priesthood and Family Department and as a Counselor in the North America Central Area presidency.
Elder Giménez received an undergraduate degree in accounting and auditing from the University of Santiago, Chile in 1997. In 2003 he received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chile.
Elder Michael A. Dunn
March 4, Devotional
Elder Michael A. Dunn was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 3, 2021. He currently serves in the North America Southwest Area Presidency. Prior to his call, he worked as the managing director of BYU Broadcasting.
Elder Dunn received a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications from the University of Utah in 1981. In 2008 he received a Master of Arts degree in communication (Film and New Media) from the University of Utah.
Kalani Sitake
March 11, Devotional
Kalani Sitake was named the head football coach at BYU Dec. 19, 2015. A former Cougar running back, he is the 14th head coach in BYU history and just the fourth since 1972, when Edwards took over the program. Sitake is the first former player under Edwards to be named head coach at BYU.
Born in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, and raised in Laie, Hawai’i, and Provo, Utah, Sitake is the nation’s first FBS head football coach of Tongan descent. He graduated from BYU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in English. Sitake and his wife Timberly have four children.
Brother Gabriel W. Reid

Gabriel W. Reid was sustained as Second Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 6, 2024. Prior to his calling in the Sunday School General Presidency, he served as a Mission Leader in the Australia Sydney Mission from 2021–2024.
Reid graduated from BYU in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in international relations. He played football at BYU from 1999 to 2002 and then pursued a career in the National Football League from 2003 to 2006.
Ilana M. Horwitz

Ilana M. Horwitz is an assistant professor of Jewish Studies and Sociology, and the Fields-Rayant Chair of contemporary Jewish life at the Stuart and Suzanne Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience at Tulane University. In her research, Dr. Horwitz takes a sociological approach to examine how people’s religious upbringing, race, ethnicity, social class and gender shape their life course, especially their educational experiences.
Born in Russia, Dr. Horwitz immigrated to Philadelphia when she was seven years old as part of the Soviet Jewry Movement. Having grown in a country where Jews were persecuted, Dr. Horwitz had almost no exposure to Jewish traditions growing up. In Philadelphia, her family received significant help from different Jewish agencies and Jewish philanthropists, which allowed Dr. Horwitz to participate in Jewish schools, camps, and youth groups. In addition to learning about Judaism, Dr. Horwitz’s immersion in Jewish institutions required her to learn how to navigate a middle-upper-class social world as a working-class immigrant.
Teresa Bell

Teresa Bell joined the faculty of the Department of German and Russian at BYU in August 2013. She teaches German teaching methods, exploring foreign language teaching and German. Prior to teaching at BYU, she was a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma. She has also taught German at the University of Pittsburgh.
Bell earned bachelor's (German) and master's (German literature) degrees from BYU and a Ph.D. in second language acquisition and teaching from the University of Arizona.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf was called as Second Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Feb. 3, 2008. He served in that position until January 2018. He has served as a General Authority since April 1994.
In 1965 Dieter F. Uchtdorf began working for Lufthansa German Airlines as a pilot. From 1970 until 1996 he flew as captain of the B737, Airbus, DC10 and B747. While also working as training and check captain, he received several management responsibilities. These positions included Section Chief Pilot B737, head of Lufthansa pilot school in Arizona, head of all cockpit crews, Senior Vice President Flight Operations and Lufthansa Chief Pilot. He was also chairman of the Flight Operations Committee of the International Air Transport Association.
