The BYU Department of Dance will present dancEnsemble in an evening of new choreography on Mar. 18-19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dance Studio Theatre of the Richards Building. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Mar. 19.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422-2981 or online at byuarts.com.

Unlike other performing groups at BYU, the modern dance-based dancEnsemble focuses on original student and faculty choreography that provides a range of moods, emotions and ideas.

Directed by Graham Brown, the evening includes 11 new works of choreography, including two encore pieces that were selected to be performed at this year’s American College Dance Association regional festival.

This dynamic and thoughtful evening of choreography features the 27-student-member dancEnsemble covering a diverse range of physical, emotional and aesthetic landscapes including humor, nostalgia, longing, minimalism, redemption, sorrow, wit, curiosity, rhythmic complexity, quirkiness, empowerment, and of course, a lot of fierce dancing.

Choreographers include Danielle Ashby, Meagan Barnes, Elise Calcote, Allison Haynie, Katelynn Reed, Tyrel Roberts, Abigail Roush, Caitlin Shill and Alexandra Sullivan.

dancEnsemble invites all to see the next generation of dancers and choreographers.
