May is National Bike Month and the perfect time to get out and ride with your family, co-workers and friends. Here are some of the great ways to help you make the most of your biking experience:
Rent a Bike from the BYU Bike Sharing Program – If you want to participate in these events but don’t have a bike, no worries; you can rent one from BYU Bike Sharing. The cost is $20 during spring and summer terms and $35 during fall and winter semesters. The rental includes a bike, maintenance, and a lock. For those using BYU Bike Sharing, Outdoors Unlimited will offer helmets at 20% off.
Register Your Bike –Bicycles must be licensed with a municipality before being operated or parked on campus. BYU provides Provo City license services. To get a license just fill out the online registration form and bring two copies of the form to the BYU Parking Services Office located in the Jesse Knight Building (JKB). There is a minimal fee required.
Surplus Bike Sale – The BYU Sustainability Office and the Bike Sharing program is clearing out and selling some of the bike inventory. About 25 bikes will be on sale for $90 per bike. (Thursday-Friday, May 5-6, until the bikes are sold; from 3-6 p.m., Outdoors Unlimited, 2201 N Canyon Rd)
Enjoy Local Group Bike Rides – There are weekly and annual group rides held in Provo and the surrounding communities and are open to the public.
Faculty and Staff: More National Bike Month Activities
Get a Free Bike Tune Up – Get your bike tuned-up by Outdoors Unlimited at one of the following events. Just drop your bike off during the specified hours and they’ll notify you when it is complete. BYU has also provided convenient bicycle pumps and repair stands at some of the bike parking locations that you can use as needed.
Wednesday, May 4; from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.; RB bike racks
Thursday, May 19; from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.; JKB bike racks
Earn a Biking Lapel Pin – Bike (or walk) to work eight times during the month of May and earn a lapel pin. Just track the days you bike to work. When you have completed the requirement go to the Wellness Office located at 2001 JKB to pick up your pin.
Join Team BYU in the Provo Bike Challenge – Register for the Provo Bike Challenge and let your miles biked count toward TEAM BYU as we compete against other local businesses. Top bikers will be recognized at a Provo City Council Meeting. BYU won the challenge in 2015; help us maintain our winning title! When searching your workplace type in Provo City and select it. Attend a Well & Wise About Life Lessons Learned From Biking – Exercise Science Professor Ty Hopkins will share some of his experiences biking and the impact those experiences have had in his life. (Wednesday, June 15; from 12:05-12:50 p.m.; in 3106 Jesse Knight Building)

Elder Clark G. Gilbert, Commissioner of the Church Educational System and General Authority Seventy, accompanied and introduced Elder Christofferson.
