Name: Christine Hurt
BYU employee since: 2014.
My job at BYU is… I'm the George Sutherland Chair and professor of law, which just means I'm a law professor! But George Sutherland was a great Utahn who was both a U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senator. He introduced the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote, so I'm proud to have his name on my professorship. Also, I'm the associate dean for faculty and curriculum, which basically means that I put together the schedule and help students with academic problems.
Currently I’m working on… a paper about class action securities fraud litigation.
The best advice I’ve ever got about teaching is… students will forgive a lot of mistakes if they feel that you care about them.
My favorite lecture to teach is… insider trading in Securities Regulation.
The best-kept BYU secret is… The Wall… because... of the tater tots.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… nothing. I just get the corn dogs!
I’ve hiked Y Mountain… too many times to count. It is my go-to afternoon exercise after class.
My most cherished memory at BYU was when… my daughter was baptized as a sophomore in the JSB.
On Saturday mornings you’ll find me… working in my yard with my dog, Astro (named after the World Champion Houston Astros, but he looks a lot like "The "Jetsons'" Astro).
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are… Diet Coke, Diet Coke and Diet Coke.
My favorite quote is… “Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words.” - St. Francis of Assisi
One item on my bucket list is… being a "Jeopardy" contestant. I have auditioned twice. Fingers crossed!
If I could travel anywhere, I would go to... the Scottish Highlands… because… I love the landscape, the weather and the people..
