BYU study: Halley’s comet first observed by ancient Greeks?

Two BYU researchers combined their specialties of astronomy and ancient philosophy to connect an ancient Greek report of a comet in 466 B.C. with complex astronomical calculations that show it was likely the famous Halley’s comet. The research pushes back the earliest recorded sighting of Halley’s comet more than 200 years.

BYU prof helps slow down light with a silicon chip

A BYU electrical engineering professor was part of a team that used a silicon chip to reduce the speed of light by a factor of 1,200. Controlling light within a chip is a key part of the next generation of computing, which promises to use light rather than electricity to send information.
