This year’s presentation, Herakles, follows the Greek hero Herakles as he finishes his last heroic labor and returns home to prevent his family from being killed, but tragedy occurs. The production will be set in 1969, featuring Herakles as a veteran returning home from Vietnam and struggling with PTSD. The show will use a selection of large puppets to represent some characters and includes rock music.
Under the direction of Hugh Hanson, Herakles represents Westminster College Classical Greek Theatre Festival’s 46th year. An orientation lecture by dramaturge Jim Svendsen will precede every show thirty minutes before the performance.
