U.S.-Poland relations topic of Kennedy Center lecture Oct. 15

A Brigham Young University emeritus professor of history will present a lecture about Poland's ties to the United States Wednesday, Oct. 15, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Douglas F. Tobler will discuss "Contemporary Poland: An American Ally in Central Europe" as part of the International Forum Series sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.

Tobler has served twice as coordinator of the European Studies program at the Kennedy Center, first in 1975 and again in 1981. In 2001, he returned from serving as president of the Poland Warsaw Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees at BYU and earned his doctorate degree at the University of Kansas.

Tobler co-founded the German Studies Association and serves on the executive committee of the Scholar's Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches. He is also a member of the Conference Group on German Politics.
