Ilhan Yildiz, the chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of Yüzüncü Yil in Van, Turkey, will be the guest speaker at an Area Focus Lecture Monday, March 8, at 1 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.
An associate dean of divinity since 1999, Yildiz will address the topic “Religious Groups and Their Challenges in Turkey." The lecture is sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.
He is a visiting professor at both BYU and the University of Utah, where he is conducting research evaluating the modernity, religion and religious education of families in both Salt Lake City and Van, Turkey.
