Steve Lindeman CD release concert June 15 to include Synthesis, KUER's Steve Williams

The Brigham Young University School of Music will host a special CD Release Concert for composer Steve Lindeman featuring BYU Synthesis directed by Ray Smith with master of ceremonies Steve Williams, host of KUER 90.1's "Night Time Jazz."

The concert will be Saturday, June 15, in the Varsity Theater of the Wilkinson Student Center, and admission is free.

Titled "The Day After Yesterday," the CD is scheduled to be released June 11 and has already garnered a five-star review from criticaljazz.com.

"Lindeman pushes the musical envelope of the traditional big band sound to places of three dimensional sonic depth rarely achieved from other large ensembles with a similar make up," according to the review.

Selections from the CD include "Lavender Flowers on Her Table," "Meet Me When the Stars Come Out," "Long Gone," "I Remember," "Llévame ya al Mundo de las Maravillas (Take Me to Wonderland Right Away)," "Verloren" and "Take a Jake Break."

Lindeman is a professor of music at BYU where he teaches theory and analysis, jazz studies and piano and is a member of the resident faculty jazz quintet Q'd Up.

Synthesis and Smith will take the stage having returned from a successful concert tour of Brazil, where they performed at the Rio das Ostras Jazz and Blues Festival and other venues.
