Scott Ritter to be featured at July 22 BYU devotional

Scott Ritter, chair of the Brigham Young University Department of Geological Sciences, will speak at a campus devotional on Tuesday, July 22, at 11:05 a.m. in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium.

The devotional will be presented live on BYU Television, KBYU TV, KBYU FM and byubroadcasting.org. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

After five years of teaching at Oklahoma State University, Ritter joined the BYU Geology Department faculty in 1991. His research specialties include micropaleontology and carbonate sedimentology.

He belongs to the Geological Society of America, Paleontological Society and Pander Society. Ritter has also served as chair for the Southcentral Section of the Geological Society of America, as a corresponding member of the Subcommission on Permian Stratigraphy and as a U.S. Geological Survey Volunteer for Science.

He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology from BYU, and he earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in carbonate petrology and invertebrate paleontology.

Making fashion out of art: Students hit the runway with designs inspired by BYU Museum of Art exhibit

BYU students recently showcased fashion and makeup designs in a runway show at the Museum of Art. They each designed and modeled a look inspired by one of the paintings on exhibit from an art museum in Puerto Rico. On display until Jan. 3, The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce showcases world-class art that reflects the innate beauty of the human experience.
