Patricia Ravert of College of Nursing to give BYU devotional address July 10

Patricia Ravert, associate dean of the College of Nursing, will give an address titled “Persistence, Patience and Posies” at the weekly Brigham Young University devotional Tuesday, July 10, at 11:05 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

It will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYUtv, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and at byutv.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. For rebroadcast and reprint information, visit byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Ravert completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at BYU as valedictorian in 1975 and then began a professional career with Intermountain Health Care. She returned to BYU in the mid-1990s to obtain her master’s degree in nursing administration and went on to complete a doctorate from the University of Utah in 2004.

She joined the BYU faculty in 1999 where she is an associate professor and coordinator of the Nursing and Learning Center and Clinical Simulation Laboratory. Additionally, last year she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing during the organization’s 38th annual meeting and conference in Washington, D.C., for her outstanding contributions to the nursing profession.

Making fashion out of art: Students hit the runway with designs inspired by BYU Museum of Art exhibit

BYU students recently showcased fashion and makeup designs in a runway show at the Museum of Art. They each designed and modeled a look inspired by one of the paintings on exhibit from an art museum in Puerto Rico. On display until Jan. 3, The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce showcases world-class art that reflects the innate beauty of the human experience.

The team of BYU engineers placed 86 Bluetooth devices throughout a 50-hectare field near Elberta, Utah, to measure water levels across every inch of the field. Placing this many sensors in a commercial field is unprecedented and allows researchers to see unique patterns that have never before been captured.
