Jazz Voices, BYU Voices plan holiday concert Nov. 28

Brigham Young University’s Jazz Voices will perform its concert titled “Joyful Noise III” Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, or byuarts.com/tickets.

Directed by Allen M. Matthews, Jazz Voices and BYU Voices are made up of 19 vocalists and a three-person rhythm section. The group will perform 17 numbers throughout the evening in three major sets.

The first set features the Jazz Voices and will include classics including “Singin’ in the Rain.” In the second set, “Blackbird” by the Beatles and others will be sung by BYU Voices. The program will end with a little holiday cheer including “Let It Snow” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Air traffic control for drones: BYU engineers introduce low-cost UAV detection technology

With the exponential rise in drone activity, safely managing low-flying airspace has become a major issue. Using a network of small, low-cost radars, engineering professor Cammy Peterson and her colleagues have built an air traffic control system for drones that can effectively and accurately track anything in an identified low-altitude airspace.
