"Hamlet" for children presented by BYU troupe Sept. 21-24

Brigham Young University’s Young Company Shakespeare Troupe will present a one-hour adaptation of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, “Hamlet,” suited especially for elementary schoolchildren.

Written and directed by Christopher Clark, the adaptation will run Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 21-23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Nelke Theatre of the Harris Fine Arts Center, with a matinee performance Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or at www.performances.byu.edu for $9 or $6 with student ID.

By exploring the themes of life, death and friendship, the Young Company hopes to introduce young children to Shakespeare at an early age in an exciting and interesting way, helping them to develop a lifelong love of Shakespeare and the arts.

Performing for more than 25 years, BYU Young Company travels to elementary and junior high schools throughout the area presenting Shakespearean plays adapted for children. Each show offers optional workshops to help students and teachers make the most of the performance experience.

Cast members include Fallon Hanson, David St. Julien, Christopher Clark, Matthew Haws, Spencer Green, Debra Moses and Laura Sorensen.

The production team features show manager Rebeca Wallin, costume designer Amelia Schow and fight director Joel R. Wallin.

BYU Young Company also consists of a contemporary touring group which will present and adaptation of “The Boxcar Children” at BYU in February.

For more information, contact Christopher Clark at (801) 764-0317.
