Double bassist Steve Benne to present BYU recital Nov. 7

Steve Benne, principal double bassist with the Knoxville Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, will perform a guest recital at Brigham Young University on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Karl G. Maeser Building auditorium on the south end of campus.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend.

Benne, who will be accompanied by faculty member Robin Hancock on piano, will perform a series of numbers for the double bass, such as “Tarantella” by Giovanni Bottesini, the Sonata No. 6 in A major by Luigi Boccherini and Fantasy Pieces,” Op. 73 by Robert Schumann.

Before performing with the Knoxville companies, Benne toured the United States and Europe as the principle double bassist for the New American Chamber Orchestra. In the United States, he has also played in the Florida International Festival, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute and the Grand Teton Music Festival.
