Documentary filmmaker to discuss "Iraq's New War" at BYU lecture May 5

Dodge Billingsley recently returned from visiting troops in Iraq

Documentary film producer and director Dodge Billingsley will speak Wednesday, May 5, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Billingsley's lecture, "Iraq's New War," will explore the lives of soldiers in war. He recently returned from Mosul, Iraq, where he was integrated with the 2nd and 3rd Infantry Divisions for a two-week operation.

The Global Focus series, sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, is free and the public is invited to attend.

Billingsley's company, Combat Films and Research, filmed the project for the British Broadcasting Company and the Learning Channel.

CF&R released "Virgin Soldiers" in 2003, a documentary following the advance of a Marine squad from Kuwait to Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He has also done extensive work in Afghanistan since 2001, as well as in other parts of the Middle East, China and Africa.

Billingsley received a bachelor's degree in history from Columbia University and a master's degree in war studies from London's King's College.

Contact Lee Simons at (801) 422-2652 for more information, or visit the Kennedy Center Web site at http://kennedy.byu.edu/events for archived lectures and a calendar of other upcoming events and lectures.
