Daughter of Western legend Roy Rogers to speak at Nov. 4 BYU film screening

Brigham Young University will host the daughter of Roy Rogers, Cheryl Rogers Barnett, as the BYU Motion Picture Archives Film Series commemorates Rogers’ centennial with the screening of his movie “Under California Stars” Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium.

Doors at the library will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, but early arrival is encouraged to assure seating.

“We are so pleased to have Cheryl Rogers Barnett talk about her famous father,” said James D’Arc, curator of the BYU Motion Picture Archive and host of the film series. “Roy Rogers was an icon to millions of viewers around the world for his positive image, his popular western songs in his movies and for his hit television series in the 1950s.”

The 1948 film, “Under California Stars,” was produced in color and celebrated Rogers’ tenth anniversary in motion pictures. It also features Jane Frazee, Andy Devine, and, of course, Trigger, “The Smartest Horse in the Movies.”

The BYU Motion Picture Archive Series at the Harold B. Lee Library, now in its 13th season, shows motion pictures twice a month taken from BYU’s permanent collection of archived feature motion pictures.
