Name: Stephanie Breinholt
BYU employee since: I have been a full-time professor since Fall 2011
My job at BYU is… the head of the BFA Acting Program in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts. I teach acting, voice and dialects, and I direct shows for BYU Theatre. I also act, do voice over acting and direct professionally. I just finished directing the show Radium Girls at BYU. We were invited to take the show to Los Angeles in February for the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The show was recognized with 14 national awards from the Kennedy Center.
I get most excited about my work when… I have the chance to collaborate with students on projects.
Classic Hollywood movies (old black-and-white movies) …sparked my interest in my field… as early as 3rd grade. My favorites are To Kill a Mockingbird and The Miracle Worker.
When I tell people I teach acting at BYU, they often say… “Wow! That must be really fun! What a dream job!”
When I have 30 minutes of free-time, you can find me… playing with my kids. Every. Time.
My advice to incoming freshman is… to breathe! Everything is going to work out! And talk to your professors. We care and we can help you!
My favorite quotes are…
"Do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will not be the miracle, but you will be the miracle.” President Thomas S. Monson
"By becoming the answer to someone's prayer, we often find the answer to our own.” Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf
The biggest challenge I’ve faced was… having to wait a long time to have a family. But that turned into the biggest miracle I have experienced in my life: adopting my three children! This taught me that in life the most important things are worth the effort and worth the wait!
