Name: Rebecca Schroeder
BYU employee since: 2000
My job at BYU is… I am the Acquisitions Librarian and department chair of the Material Acquisitions Department. I purchase library materials.
Currently I’m working on… Researching trends in e-book usage based on several different acquisition models.
I’m currently reading… I just finished reading Ivanhoe and several other books including: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Fancy Nancy, and Hop on Pop (some of my favorites).
I get most excited about my work when the… Library is crowded and I see students using the materials we purchased.
When I have 30 minutes of free-time… You can find me reading a book or working in my yard. It really it depends on the weather.
My advice to incoming freshman… is to say your prayers and to call your mother!
My favorite spot on campus is… The Library, of course! It’s the heart and substance of the university and a source of peace. It’s got everything you need to succeed, great collections, databases, periodicals and equipment. There are scads of primary resources, lots of different kinds of study areas, a snack zone and the most helpful staff you will ever meet.
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are… a jar of Miracle Whip, a package of tortillas and some quick-rise yeast (you never know when you might want to whip up some bread).
My favorite quote is… “The sun will come out tomorrow.”
The biggest challenge I’ve faced was... Toss up between the swim in the Salem Sprint Triathlon in a wetsuit, taking the GRE or turning down chocolate.
