Contemporary Dance Theatre's "The Thing About Love" at Pardoe Theatre Jan. 31-Feb. 2

This year’s “Dance in Concert” by the Brigham Young University Contemporary Dance Theatre will feature “The Thing About Love,” an evening of dance dedicated to love, Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $10 a seat for opening night and $12 for all other performances; they can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting byuarts.com/tickets. A date-night special is also available at the ticketing website, which offers two tickets for $20 using the promotional code ”LOVE.”

“’The Thing About Love’ explores the many faces love has — first love, mature love, God’s love, love that crosses boundaries, love that hurts and love that heals,” said Michelle Nielsen, artistic director. “[It] is a collection of many love stories. Perhaps one will seem almost like your own, and you may even find yourself more inspired to embrace all that is encompassed in this thing we call love.”

The show will feature works by distinguished choreographers such as Jennifer Backhaus’ “Love and Other Impossibilities,” Caleb Mitchell’s “Rain,” Donald McKayle’s “Songs of the Disinherited” and the premiere of “Ingot” by Omar Olivas and Jenn Huffman from Diavolo Dance Theatre. It will also include works by BYU faculty and student choreographers.

The BYU Contemporary Dance Theatre, formerly known as The Dancers' Company, has served audiences since 1975 with its wide spectrum of dance styles that range from dramatic to comedic and lyrical to jazz.

A winner in the American College Dance Festival competition, the company has taught workshops and performed throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and internationally in South America, East Asia, South Africa, Turkey, Australia and Israel.
