BYU's Living Legends to perform "Seasons" Feb. 20-21 at de Jong Concert Hall

Just back from a 10-day performance tour in Arizona, Brigham Young University’s Living Legends will perform “Seasons,” their signature display of Polynesian, Latin American and Native American music and dance, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Both performances will be videotaped for television broadcast, so no latecomers will be admitted.

Tickets are $11, or $8 with BYU or student ID, and can be purchased online at www.byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or in person at the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office.

Living Legends members are of Native American, Latin American or Polynesian heritage. Their performance will reflect the changing seasons experienced by ancient cultures, weaving together legends of the past with the reality of today.

“It is always exciting to visit a culture that we represent,” said Janielle Christensen, artistic director for Living Legends. “The audience members appreciate how the group represents their heritage and dance in an authentic and honorable way.”

Living Legends strives to encourage all people to take pride in their individual heritage, Christensen said. As a letter from the Office of Culture in Guatemala said, “Your presence here teaches our people something—to have high ideals and to walk proud as a people. We hope this community will not be the same after tonight.”

For more than 35 years, the Living Legends have taken their authentic choreography, intricate costumes and stirring music to more than 40 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and the South Pacific. Living Legends will visit Argentina and Paraguay during April and May this year.
