Not two or three, but four piano players take the stage as the world-famous American Piano Quartet comes to the de Jong Concert Hall on Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
“The American Piano Quartet has performed worldwide in concerts that have been broadcast on radio and television,” said quartet member Scott Holden. “We have made 10 tours of Germany alone, in addition to numerous concerts in Asia, South America, Europe and throughout the United States.”
Quartet members Scott Holden and Robin Hancock are faculty members of BYU’s School of Music, and Jeffrey Shumway is an alumnus from both BYU and Juilliard. The fourth member, Del Parkinson, teaches piano at Boise State University and received a postgraduate diploma from Juilliard after completing his undergraduate work in London.
The performance includes a wide variety of composers including Franz Liszt, Kevin Olson, Josef Rheinberger and Mack Wilberg of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, who have arranged pieces especially for piano quartets. Eight compositions from these composers and more will be performed.
