BYU Symphony, University Strings in concert Dec. 7

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the University Orchestra and University Strings in concert Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Admission is free.

The University Strings will begin the concert with a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. They will also perform works by Georg Friedrich Handel and Peter Tchaikovsky.

University Strings has approximately 60 members. They play a repertoire from all periods, but emphasize Baroque concerto grosso.

The University Orchestra will perform pieces by Hector Berlioz, Claude Debussy, Aaron Copland and Georges Bizet.

The University Orchestra is designed for non-music majors. The class schedule caters to the students in order to provide a fun atmosphere.

Air traffic control for drones: BYU engineers introduce low-cost UAV detection technology

With the exponential rise in drone activity, safely managing low-flying airspace has become a major issue. Using a network of small, low-cost radars, engineering professor Cammy Peterson and her colleagues have built an air traffic control system for drones that can effectively and accurately track anything in an identified low-altitude airspace.
