BYU Singers and Concert Choir will perform April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU.

Tickets are $6 and are available in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422-2981 or online at byuarts.com.

Both groups will perform their own individual sets and will combine for a final piece, “Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise,” by James C. Kasen.

Under the direction of Andrew Crane, BYU Singers will perform a variety of music including three pieces written specifically for the group. These three pieces are “Sing Praise to God” by Brent Wells, “Alleluia” by Ivo Antognini and “It is Well” by Brent Wells.

“There is nothing quite like the power of music in helping us to express emotions,” BYU Singers member Elisa Thurber said. “Performing and rehearsing with BYU Singers never fails to be a healing experience for me. I know our audience members can experience the same thing as they listen.”

BYU Singers consists of 40 students pursuing a variety of graduate and undergraduate degrees. The choir has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Sydney Opera House and Town Hall, and more.

Under the direction of Matthew Nielsen, Concert Choir will perform “Four Psalms of David” by Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek, three hymns and three international dances. The hymn “Glory to Thee, Eternal King” by Mack Wilberg was written for the BYU Concert Choir in 2005 and it has not been performed in Utah since then.

“My favorite part of being in Concert Choir is all the work that goes in leading up to the performance,” Concert Choir member Jared Sybrowsky said. “I work for weeks to connect to the music so that it can inspire our audience. This is why I sing!”

Concert Choir comprises 80 student performers. This semester’s Concert Choir is being directed by interim choral conductor Matthew Nielsen while conductor Rosalind Hall is on leave. This group generally does not tour, but has a rigorous performance schedule on and off BYU’s campus.

For those who are unable to attend, the performance will be live streamed at liveconcerts.byu.edu.
