The BYU School of Music presents Choir Showcase on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422- 2981 or online at byuarts.com.

This year’s performance includes BYU Singers, Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus. The annual showcase presents classical, contemporary and sacred choral works.

“The Choir Showcase is in many ways the most exciting BYU choral concert of the year. It presents 500 singers, many of whom are participating for the first time on the de Jong stage as members of the BYU Choirs,” said Rosalind Hall, director of Men's Chorus and Concert Choir. “Many of these students have dreamed of this moment for a very long time. They have worked hard to get to it, and that work shows as they miraculously perform a highly polished concert after only three weeks of rehearsal.”

The repertoire will be wide and varied, giving the audience a taste of what is in store for them later in the semester, with choral music that runs the gamut from a Renaissance motet by the BYU Singers to a high-spirited, Jamaican work song (complete with choreography!) from the Men’s Chorus.

One of the most memorable slice of any of these combined choral concerts, according to Hall, is the moment when all 500 voices join together in surround-sound, as they circle the entire concert hall on both floors.

“Many of the audience members in the past have described this experience as ‘a little taste of heaven,’” remarked Hall. “I think it is fair to say that it feels just like that to the singers as well.”

This performance will be conducted by Andrew Crane, Rosalind Hall and Jean Applonie. The showcase strives to bring together the best sounds from BYU’s various talented choirs.
