On Friday, Nov. 18, the BYU Percussion Ensemble, Panoramic Steel and Cougar Band drum line join forces in presenting a broad variety of music in the Pardoe Theater.
The Percussion Ensemble will perform Henry Cowell’s Pulse, composed in 1939 (one of the first percussion ensemble pieces in the repertoire), Jennifer Higdon’s Splendid Wood for six players on three marimbas and Christopher Deane’s Vespertine Formations for marimba quartet, a piece inspired by bird flocking patterns and sounds.
Panoramic Steel, BYU’s steel band, will perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s Procession of the Nobles and (at the other end of the musical spectrum) Andy Narell’s latest panorama work, The Last Word.
Members of both the percussion ensemble and Panoramic Steel will accompany the BYU drum line in the closing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody from the rock group Queen.
