BYU names new director of BYU Salt Lake Center

Jay Young has been named the eighth director of the Brigham Young University Salt Lake Center.

The BYU Salt Lake Center was formally established in 1959 by BYU President Ernest L. Wilkinson to provide students with an excellent resource for credit programs within the Salt Lake Valley.

Young began his role as director in May following the leadership of Scott L. Howell, who is now presiding over the North Dakota Bismarck Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“We look forward to the new insights and energy Jay will bring to this position and the Center,” said Lee J. Glines, Dean of BYU Continuing Education. “We are grateful to Scott for all he has contributed to the Salt Lake Center and to the University as a whole during the many years he has worked here and wish him well as he begins his missionary service.”

Prior to his appointment, Young was a senior instructional designer in the Academic Services area of Continuing Education at BYU where he had been working for the past six years.

Young earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology from BYU, a master’s degree in Organization Development from the Fielding Institute, and a bachelor’s in Linguistics from BYU.
