BYU Bookstore reminds returning students of textbook floor changes

Returning students should note that textbooks at the BYU Bookstore are now shelved alphabetically by author instead of by course and section number. This new approach requires that students print their book lists in order to locate their required course materials.

A student’s book list can be found through the Route Y login to School to My Book List or by going to booklist.byu.edu. Seventeen kiosks will be on hand for students to print their book lists, but with more than 30,000 students needing their lists, it will be faster to do this prior to arrival at the BYU Bookstore.

“In the short time since these changes have been made we have seen improved traffic flow on the textbook floor, a reduction in the time students spend locating books and a reduction in special orders because more students are locating books that are in stock,” said Tom Hirtzel, Bookstore Textbooks Manager.

Also, students can now charge class materials to their university account, the same account to which tuition is charged. Payment for fall purchases is due on Oct. 31. Only class materials located on the upper level of the BYU Bookstore (excluding computer items) may be charged to the university account.

“This payment option helps relieve the financial pressures many students encounter at the start of a term or semester,” said Jennifer Berry, General Book Manager.

When asked payment type, students should say “university account” and provide a BYU ID. The account is interest free and can be paid online later using a credit card or e-check. Returns are credited back to the university account.

Students should be aware that if their university account is currently on hold they will need to take care of the hold before they can make purchases using the account. Also, if the account balance is not paid by Oct. 31, the university account will go on hold starting Nov. 1. If this occurs students will not be able to register and other university services may be restricted. Seriously delinquent accounts will be sent to collections.
