Westerberg is currently serving as the associate dean of students, and prior to that position was the director of the Center for Service and Learning.

She is replacing former dean Vernon Heperi, who will begin his term as the assistant to the president for student success and inclusion on September 1. Heperi has served as dean of students for 15 years.

“We appreciate Vern’s vision, warmth and strong work ethic as he has served our students at BYU and are excited about his new role,” said Scharman. “I am also confident Sarah has the training and experience to excel as the new dean of students and will add a unique perspective to the position.

Westerberg has a bachelor’s degree and post-graduate certificate of Education from St. Anne’s College, Oxford University. She earned her Master of Public Administration and Doctoral degrees from BYU.
