A. Brent Strong to give Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture Oct. 28

A. Brent Strong, professor of manufacturing engineering technology at Brigham Young University, will present BYU's highest faculty honor, the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture, at a campus forum Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The forum will be broadcast live on KBYU (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and on byubroadcasting.org.

It will be rebroadcast Sunday, Nov. 2, on KBYU (Channel 11) at 6 a.m., on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., on KBYU-FM (89.1) at 8 p.m. and on BYU-Radio at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Strong is a fellow and former international president of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering. He was named a BYU Alcuin Fellow in 2001 for his contributions to general education at BYU. In 1999, he was named the Lorin Farr Professor of Entrepreneurial Technology to incorporate entrepreneurial training into the BYU engineering curriculum.

He is also the founding director of the Manufacturing Leadership Forum at BYU and the former director of the Advanced Composite Manufacturing and Engineering Center and the Rapid Product Realization Center at BYU.

He is the inventor or co-inventor on seven patents and is the author of six books and more than 50 peer-reviewed articles about research on composite and plastic materials, methods of improving the productivity of entrepreneurs, and the nature of creativity.

Making fashion out of art: Students hit the runway with designs inspired by BYU Museum of Art exhibit

BYU students recently showcased fashion and makeup designs in a runway show at the Museum of Art. They each designed and modeled a look inspired by one of the paintings on exhibit from an art museum in Puerto Rico. On display until Jan. 3, The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce showcases world-class art that reflects the innate beauty of the human experience.

A Farmer's Field of Dreams? BYU-built smart tech maps moisture levels, will adjust watering automatically

The team of BYU engineers placed 86 Bluetooth devices throughout a 50-hectare field near Elberta, Utah, to measure water levels across every inch of the field. Placing this many sensors in a commercial field is unprecedented and allows researchers to see unique patterns that have never before been captured.
