Academy Award-winning animator and filmmaker to give BYU lecture Oct. 10

The Brigham Young University Department of Theatre and Media Arts will host Michael Dudok de Wit, an Academy Award-winning animator and filmmaker, for a lecture Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Nelke Theatre.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

BYU faculty and students have been exploring how film can “move” an audience, and the department recently presented a series of films with spiritual themes, “Spirituality in Film: The Moving Image,” to further understand how films touch people emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.

Wit’s spiritual interests and values are woven into his creative works, and he will discuss how his spiritual insights have translated into film and other creative works.

Michael Dudok de Wit was born in Holland. He created his first film, “The Interview,” while studying at West Surrey College of Art and Design in England. He then worked in Barcelona and London, creating numerous award-winning commercials. His film “The Monk and the Fish” was nominated for an Academy Award in 1994, and “Father and Daughter” won an Oscar for best animated short film in 2000.
