Name: Shaunna George
BYU employee since... 1981–1988 (department secretary, HBLL Learning Resource Center), long break, then 2014–present.
My job at BYU is... to make life a little easier for the deans of Undergraduate Education. I am surrounded by wonderful faculty members and colleagues and a fantastic student team. I get to help oversee some of the many projects always afoot here! Currently, crews are busy refurbishing the building, and committee members are hard at work designing a new general education program.
I’m currently working on... learning my new responsibilities as business manager.
When I have 30 minutes of free time, you can find me... down a rabbit hole in FamilySearch, making my way through a very long Audible “wish list” or redecorating my house in Animal Crossing!
I became a BYU fan... long, long ago. My dad worked for Audio Visual Services when it was housed in the HRCB (in fact, both my parents retired from BYU). On an evening family outing to Dad’s office, I typed on his secretary’s IBM, swiveled in her chair and determined that would be me one day.
My current favorite spot on campus is... my little perch on the third floor of the beautiful Maeser Building. It often feels like I work in a tree house!
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are... a kale smoothie, homemade tomato juice (a long-standing family tradition) and watermelon (if it’s summertime).
My most cherished memory at BYU is... meeting my husband (a faculty member since 1995) when we crossed paths by “The Candy Jar” near the Varsity Theater in the WSC once upon a time, although receiving my diploma from him as I walked across the Marriott Center stage (B.S., family science, 2017) with my parents, our children and grandchildren cheering me on was pretty sweet, too.
My (current) favorite quote is... from Mark Twain: “There isn’t time, so brief is life, for bickerings, apologies, heartburnings, callings to account. There is only time for loving, and but an instant, so to speak, for that.”
