Name: Richard D. Osguthorpe
BYU employee since: 2019
My job at BYU is… dean of the McKay School of Education and incoming associate academic vice president for Undergraduate Studies.
The best advice I’ve ever gotten about teaching is… there is no teaching without learning.
My favorite lecture to teach is… School Finance 101.
My advice to incoming freshmen and graduating seniors is…relax!
I became a BYU fan when… I stayed awake to watch the end of the 1980 Holiday Bowl and our Cougars of BYU rewarded me with a miracle.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… Earnestly Chocolate scooped from the side of the container with most of the added caramel.
My favorite BYU tradition is… the weekly devotionals because I attended them with my dad as an undergraduate student.
My favorite spot on campus is… the HFAC because that is where we congregate with the most wonderful young adults of the mighty fifth Stake of Zion each Sunday.
My favorite Cougar athletes are… #31, Lisa Osguthorpe Baxter, and #86, Ben Cahoon.
My most cherished memory at BYU is… feeling prompted to become a teacher my freshman year in George Durrant’s mission preparation class.
On Saturday mornings you’ll find me… hiking the mountain above our home and then working in the yard with my hands in the dirt.
My go-to comfort food is… my mom’s apple pie.
I’m most looking forward to… spending time this summer rafting the Payette River and backpacking in the Sawtooths.
My favorite quote is… “Everything will be okay; it will all work out!” (from Lolly Osguthorpe, my mom).
