Name: Andra Duke
BYU employee since: I joined BYU Broadcasting in August of 2017.
My job at BYU... is as the director of content for BYU Broadcasting. My primary role is to oversee the developing and producing of original content and acquisitions programming for BYUtv that entertains, inspires, uplifts and improves families and communities.
I get most excited about my work... when brainstorming and collaborating with employees, students and our production partners about a new program idea. Creative synergy always makes something richer and greater than the sum of its parts!
I have always... had a love and respect for God’s creations. From our eternal family to our exquisitely beautiful Earth. Everything except for spiders. I don’t love them…
The best advice I’ve ever received was... ‘when you’re plagued by fear, get comfortable with the worst-case scenario’ – once you’ve done that, you can move forward in faith, ready to handle anything.
When I have 30 minutes of free time... you can find me sitting in my ‘cozy corner’ in my room reading. I might even turn on the fireplace, winter or summer; it’s really about the ambiance.
During the summer months... we love to travel or go camping when we can get away. I love exploring different cultures and cities around the world, but I also love those quiet moments in the mountains. Moving to Utah has been a wonderful impetus to get our family back into nature.
If I could travel anywhere... I would go to the Aegean Islands. After doing my ancestry, I discovered that 1% of my DNA comes from there, so of course I need to find a way to visit.
My fondest memory from my childhood... was camping with my family. We always camped in the same campground, Shady Dell in the Uintah mountains. I remember hours and hours of exploration, fishing with my dad, the swimming holes we built and the pop shoppe we drank. (Kudos to anyone old enough to remember what that is!)
