Name: Estela Marquez
BYU employee since: May 2011
My job at BYU: I advise multicultural students on how to thrive at BYU and make the best of their experience here. I provide holistic advisement, which means students can come to me for academic, financial, cultural, personal and spiritual advisement. Life is good and BYU is the best place to be!
I get most excited about my work when... I see my freshman students learning how to use the BYU resources to help them be successful college students.
My advice to incoming freshman is... to create their BYU community by connecting with professors, advisors, roommates and others that can support them in their effort to reach their academic goals.
My advice to graduating seniors is... to remember that they have been privileged to get a unique education at BYU. I encourage them to go into the world and share their light with others!
I became a BYU fan when... a missionary who was a BYU student came to Guatemala and encouraged me to apply to BYU.
I've hiked Y Mountain... over 12 times with the SOAR students and with my family. I love the wonderful view and the fresh air!
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are... manchego cheese, gluten-free bread and mixed greens!
The title of my autobiography would be... "To Live a Plentiful Life."
My favorite TV show growing up was... a Latin comic show called "El Chavo del 8." It warms my heart to see old episodes of this show and remember similar things from my own childhood.
