Young DanceMakers pay homage to "Mother Earth" May 11-12 at BYU

Kathleen B. Sheffield will lead the Young DanceMakers, the performing company of Brigham Young University's Children and Teens' Creative Dance Program, in "Mother Earth . . . Come Dance With Me" Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets will be $8 and may be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office by calling (801) 422-4322 or online by visiting performances.byu.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door.

This year's presentation will celebrate 52 years of children's creative dance in Utah Valley. "Mother Earth . . . Come Dance With Me" will include "One Starry Night," choreographed by Sheffield, and Becky Ellis' "Natural Disasters," which will be danced by the boys of the group, as well as other pieces.

The Young DanceMakers includes approximately 120 boys and girls ages 6 to 18 who have studied and excelled within the BYU Children and Teens' Creative Dance Program. Members of the group have gone on to earn Sterling Scholar honors in dance and have been acceptance into BYU's dance program and the Dancers' Company, its top modern dance performing ensemble.

Registration for the 2007-2008 Young DanceMakers will begin in late August. For registration and spring workshop information, call (801) 422-4851. For more information, contact Kathleen B. Sheffield at (801) 422-2043.
