'World of Dance' showcase set for Sept. 22-25

The Brigham Young University Dance Department performs its annual showcase "World of Dance," Wednesday, Sept. 22, through Saturday, Sept. 25, in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Shows start at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available through the Harris Fine Arts Center ticket office at (801)378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac. All seats are $10.

"World of Dance" is a kaleidoscope of dance pieces performed by BYU's dance companies. Performers include International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, The Dancers' Company, Theatre Ballet and Cougarettes. An addition this year is a tap number performed by various tap dancers at BYU.

"Tap dancing is a huge part of the dancing world, so it is nice to have it be a part of 'World of Dance,'" said Erin King, a tap dancer in the "World of Dance." "I am really excited for the performance."

The dance groups performing are nationally recognized and some have won various titles in national competitions. Cougarettes are four-time National Collegiate Dance Team champions, and the Ballroom Dance Company is the undefeated U.S. Formation Champion.
