Women's Studies Book Luncheon Dec. 1 to discuss "Reading Lolita in Tehran"

Donna Lee Bowen, professor of political science at Brigham Young University, will lead the discussion of Azar Nafisi’s bestseller “Reading Lolita in Tehran” Thursday, Dec. 1, at noon in 4188 Joseph Fielding Smith Building.

The discussion is part of a Women’s Studies Book Club Luncheon sponsored by the Women’s Research Institute. All are invited to attend.

Bowen said the book combines two of her favorite subjects—perspectives on reading books and perspectives on understanding one’s life.

“Nafisi’s vantage point is the Iranian Islamic Revolution, which closed doors to Nafisi and her students but opened opportunities for deeper understandings through literature,” Bowen said.
