Women's music, writing subject of Lee Library lecture March 18 and 20

Two lectures focusing on the writings and music of Latter-day Saint women will be featured as part of the Mormon Women Exhibit currently on display in the Harold B. Lee Library Thursday, March 18, and Saturday, March 20.

The lectures and exhibit coincide with Women's History Month and the founding of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Both lectures will take place in the Lee Library auditorium. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Claudia L. Bushman, adjunct professor of history at Columbia University, will present "Writing Our History," Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

The lecture will discuss autobiographical documents recorded by Mormon women during the 19th century and how 20th century women's stories should be recorded and shared to be preserved for future generations.

On Saturday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m., poetry and music will be presented during "Discoveries: Two Centuries of Poems by Mormon Women."

Poems by 32 LDS women will share perspectives about life stages including creation, marriage, motherhood and eternity. Dramatic and musical performances interpreting the poetic words will also take place.
