"Women Art Critics in Revolutionary and Napoleonic France” topic of BYU lecture Sept. 28

The Women’s Studies Colloquium at Brigham Young University will host a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 28, titled “Portraitistes a la plume: Women Art Critics in Revolutionary and Napoleonic France.” The lecture will take place at noon in 2110 Joseph F. Smith Building.

Heather Belnap Jensen, who received her bachelor’s degree from BYU and a doctoral degree in art history at the University of Kansas, will be describing her research on women writers whose participation in art criticism was distinctly public.

She will also discuss private evidence of women’s participation in the arts, including personal correspondence and diaries of women such as Julie Candeille, Constance de Salm and Frederika Brun.

For more information, contact Joanali Evans at the Women’s Research Institute, at (801) 422-4605, or joanali_evans@byu.edu.
