Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band in concert April 12

The Brigham Young University School of Music’s Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform a combined concert Wednesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or online at performances.byu.edu for $9 or $6 with BYU or student ID.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by David Blackinton, will perform “American Overture for Band” by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, “Psalm for Band” by Vincent Persichetti and “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” from “Lohengrin” by Richard Wagner and arranged by Lucien Cailliet. Guest conductor Bryant Smith will conduct “Danza Final” from “Estancia” by Alberto Ginastera and arranged by David John.

Conducted by Donald Peterson, the Symphonic Band will perform “Whirr, Whirr, Whirr” by Ralph Hultgren, “Loch Lomond” arranged by Frank Ticheli and “Metamorphosis” by Daniel Kallman. They will also perform a six-movement piece, “Colours,” by Roger Cichy and a salute to baseball, “Pastime,” by Jack Stamp.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
