Friday, April 1

Internship Showcase: Students will set up booths in hopes of winning a cash prize as part of the Eighth Annual “Strut Your Stuff” Internship Showcase, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom. All students are invited to enjoy free dessert while learning about internship opportunities in their field of study and view the variety of student displays of past internships. Tuesday, April 5

Devotional: Derek Marquis, director of broadcast services at BYU Broadcasting, will speak at the weekly devotional at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. The address will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and at byub.org.  Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

David M. Kennedy Center Lecture: "Exploring Graduate Programs and Careers in Government" will feature Fred Axelgard, vice president of Middle East business development at General Dynamics, 3 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Mentored Research Conference: The David O. McKay School of Education is sponsoring the 2011 Mentored Research Conference from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Garden Court. The conference will showcase research of McKay School undergraduates and graduate students who have been mentored by faculty. David M. Kennedy Center Lecture: "The Law and the Women: Protection of Rights for Muslim Women in Polygyny" will be the topic for Debra Majeed, associate professor and chair of philosophy and religious studies at Beloit College, at 3 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

FSO Information Sessions: Amy J. Hyatt, diplomat in residence, will present a Foreign Service General Session at 2 p.m. and an FSO Exam Preparation Session at 4 p.m., both in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Benefit Concert: Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson will perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom. All proceeds will be used to help provide a medical clinic for Kenyan refugees. This event is sponsored by the BYU Premed Club. For more information, visit cougarpremed.com.

Mentored Learning Conference: The Mary Lou Fulton Endowed Chair will host the Annual Mentored Learning Conference.  Poster sessions will go from 9 to 11:50 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom. Students from all departments in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences will prepare mentored research posters and present them to students, faculty, administration and the public. David M. Kennedy Center Lecture: Allam Appa Rao, vice chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in India, will discuss "India and the Globalization of Science, Engineering and Technology" at 3 p.m. in 250 Spencer W. Kimball Tower.

Political Affairs Society Banquet: The BYU Political Affairs Society will be holding its closing banquet from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Skyroom Restaurant on the sixth floor of the Wilkinson Student Center.  Tickets are available now in 745 Spencer W. Kimball Tower. The club will induct National Political Science Association members, and the guest speaker will be Frank Pignanelli, Deseret News columnist and Utah lobbyist. Passover Seder Services: The Annual Passover Seder Services will be conducted by Victor L. Ludlow. Tickets go on sale now and are available at 271 Joseph Smith Building. Ticket prices are $25 for the public and $17 for current BYU students, faculty and staff. The Passover Seder Services will include unleavened bread, bitter herbs and other traditions of Passover, along with a special catered meal and commentary by Dr. Ludlow. Fourmile Ruin Exhibit Closing: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures will say goodbye to its exhibit “New Lives: Building Community at Fourmile Ruin” Friday, April 8, at the museum (100 E. 700 N.). The Fourmile Ruin is an ancient Anasazi pueblo in northern Arizona. Admission is free. The exhibit will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come and visit before it’s gone. Saturday, April 9

ACT Prep Course: The Conferences and Workshops ACT Preparation Course will run from 9 a.m. to noon and continue every Saturday until June 4. This course is for high school students preparing to take the ACT. Attendees can register online at testprep.byu.edu or by calling (801) 422-8925.

Easter Conference: BYU will host the Annual Easter Conference, with keynote speaker Elder John H. Groberg, emeritus General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from 9 a.m. to noon in 140 Joseph Smith Building. Tuesday, April 12

Unforum:  BYUSA will host the “Unforum” at 11:05 a.m. at the Marriot Center. This year’s program is “We Are BYU” and will demonstrate how faculty, staff and students provide the ultimate BYU experience. The Brigham Awards, awarded to five BYU students, faculty or staff for their genuine commitment, example and contributions to others throughout the world and the BYU community will also be given during the “Unforum.”

Wednesday, April 13

David M. Kennedy Center Lecture: "Brazil–U.S. Relations" will be the topic for an address by His Excellency Mauro Vieira, Brazilian ambassador to the U.S., at noon in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium on the first level.

Spring Block Party: To welcome spring and relax before finals, BYUSA is hosting a spring block party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Brigham Square. The event will have free J Dawgs, a rock wall, sumo wrestling, a bungee run, trampoline, gladiator battles and a dunk tank. For more information, contact BYUSA at (801) 422-3901 or byusa@byu.edu.

 Cap and Gown Pick-Up: For graduating students, the cap and gown pick-up times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 21: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center
  • Friday, April 22: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center

If the cap and gown were not pre-ordered by the pre-order deadline, a limited inventory
of caps, gowns, hoods and stoles will be available at the Hinckley Center at regular

Thursday and Friday, April 21 - 22

Commencement Services: BYU will host its April Commencement exercises Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Marriott Center. The exercises will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11) and KBYU-FM (89.1). Graduates should meet at 3 p.m. in the Abraham Smoot Building parking lot prior to the processional, while parents and family should be seated in the Marriott Center by 3:15 p.m. Doors will open at 2 p.m. The graduate processional will begin at 3:15 p.m., weather permitting. Most campus offices will close Thursday at 2:30 p.m. to accommodate the services. On Friday, the “Meet the President” event, when President Cecil O. Samuelson and his wife, Sharon, will meet and greet the graduates and their guests, will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center. Thursday and Friday, April 28 - 29

Women’s Conference: Brigham Young University’s Annual Women’s Conference will be held Thursday, April 28, and Friday, April 29, on the BYU campus. Registration is $49 for the full conference and $29 for one day. Attendees can register online at womensconference.byu.edu, onsite during the conference or by calling (801) 422-8925.

Friday, April 29

Alumni Webcast: The BYU Student Alumni Association is sponsoring a webcast with BYU alumnus Jeff Rust, president of Corporate Alliance and an international networking expert. At noon, he will give an 18-minute motivational presentation about why it is important to stay connected and how to do it effectively. A question-and-answer session will follow the event. All Month

BYUSA Club Night: Every Tuesday night in the Wilkinson Student Center from 7 to 10 p.m. is Club Night. There are more than 60 clubs to choose from at clubs.byu.edu. 

Discovery Reading: Every Wednesday at 11 a.m., children ages 10 and younger can enjoy story time at the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum, where they will hear stories about animals and nature read by a professional storyteller. Live animals will also be showcased. Safari Education Programs: Every Saturday in the month of March from 10 a.m. to noon, the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum will be hosting a safari program for children ages 5 to 12 where they will learn about animals from all over the world. Admission is $12. True Blue Tuesdays: Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to be part of a new tradition by wearing BYU blue every Tuesday. Wear true blue and find the weekly reward booth around campus from noon to 2 p.m. for free rewards and prizes. (Hint: Look in the Joseph F. Smith Building Quad, the Joseph Smith Building Courtyard or the Richards Building Quad for a booth.) Help cover campus in blue and increase the “Spirit of the Y.”

Broadcast Sports Radio: Throughout the month, BYU Radio will be broadcasting live Cougar sports, including men’s basketball, women’s basketball and men’s volleyball. Tune in to BYU Radio at byuradio.org.

FHE at the Museum of Peoples and Cultures: Families from the community and student family home evening groups are invited to the Museum of Peoples and Cultures, located at 700 N. 100 E. in Provo, for special guided tours on select Monday evenings. The cost is $5 per group. Exhibit Tours: BYU’s “Education in Zion” exhibit in the Joseph F. Smith Building now offers daily tours Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. in addition to regular hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours begin in the lobby on the main floor of the Joseph F. Smith Building. The gallery traces the history of education in the LDS culture and showcases art from local artists and BYU students. Visit lib.byu.edu/sites/educationinzion for more information. Anthropology Exhibit: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures, located at 700 N. 100 E. in Provo, will be opening the exhibit “Entwined: A Vibrant Heritage of the Modern Maya,” which teaches about an ancient skill that has carried on through the generations Tuesday, April 26. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call (801) 422-0020 or visit mpc.byu.edu.

Dinosaur Exhibit: The BYU Museum of Paleontology, formerly the Earth Science Museum, was recently expanded to display most of its collection. Now with the new 5,000 square-foot addition, the museum features a replica of a 9-foot-long triceratops skull from Montana, dinosaur bones found last summer near Moab, a Cretaceous nest, dinosaur skeletons of a Camptosaurus and an Allosaurus and a mural of the Utah-Colorado region in the Jurassic Period. Visitors can touch real fossils and view fossils being prepared in the active laboratory. The museum, located at 1683 N. Canyon Road in Provo, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with extended “Family Night” hours Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (801) 422-3680. 

Study Help: The Career and Academic Success Center at BYU offers classes on test preparation, stress management and time management. Students can attend classes to improve their academic, career and life skills. All workshops are 50 minutes long and are held in 2590 Wilkinson Student Center. If you cannot attend at the scheduled times, there are one-on-one classes available. Call (801) 422-2689 or visit ccc.byu.edu/casc to schedule.

Family History Research: The Family History Library at the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU offers free family history classes the second and fourth Sunday of each month. The classes begin at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The library’s family history resources and consultants are available from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on these Sundays.
