The Earth Science Museum is displaying "Torvosaurus Tanneri," a large, carnivorous dinosaur. The museum also features two fully mounted skeletons of Camptosaurus and Allosaurus, a mural of the Utah-Colorado region in the Jurassic period, a 150-million-year-old dinosaur egg and a preparation lab window showing museum personnel preparing fossils.
Visitors may touch real fossils at the fossil touch table and see a unique Diceratops skull. Admission is free. The Earth Science Museum is located at 1683 North Canyon Road in Provo, Utah. The museum is open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call (801) 378-3680.
Through the generosity of Fred and Sue Morris of Salt Lake City, the world's most complete collections of waterfowl and pheasants will be exhibited as a part of the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum's permanent collection.
Other exhibits on display are "Ecosystem Dioramas," "Africa: A Diverse Continent," "Cats of the World" and "Synoptic Collections" of vertebrate animals.
Gallery shows for the public featuring reptiles are conducted Mondays at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 1:30 p.m.
Children's story time is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. and noon in the children's discovery room.
"Saturday Safari" is a program at the museum tailored to children between ages five and 12. It focuses on teaching about animals, plants and the world around them. Classes are Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures, located at 700 N. 100 E. in Provo, is currently showcasing "Custom Made: Artifacts as Cultural Expression." The exhibit explores the qualities that define cultures around the world. The exhibition leads visitors through North America, South America and into the isles of the Pacific.
The museum also offers tours and teaching kit programs. The teaching kits are provided as supplementary resources for teaching anthropology in Utah. The museum also offers volunteer opportunities. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call (801) 422-0020.

President Thomas S. Monson of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will speak at a Church Educational System fireside at 6 p.m. at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.
The fireside will be broadcast live in the Marriott Center on the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and on byubroadcasting.org. The fireside will be rebroadcast Sunday, Sept. 14, on KBYU-TV (Channel 11) at 6 and 11 a.m., on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on BYU-Radio at 6 p.m. It will also be rebroadcast on Sunday, Sept. 21, on KBYU-FM (89.1) at 8 p.m.
Monday, September 8
The Emeriti Alumni Association for graduates of 40 years or more and all retired BYU faculty and staff will enjoy lunch and activities at 11:30 a.m. at the Emerald Dining Hall at Aspen Grove. Gary Flake, director of humanitarian emergency response for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will give a presentation and Kevin Peay, one of the founding members of the group Afterglow, will perform. The luncheon includes grilled chicken over fettuccine alfredo, garden salad, fresh fruit, roll and fudge brownie. Tickets are $12.50 per person and can be ordered from Todd Hendricks at (801) 422-7621. A round trip shuttle will be provided for $5. The shuttle leaves the south parking lot of LaVell Edwards Stadium at 11 a.m. and returns from Aspen Grove at 2 p.m.

President Cecil O. Samuelson will be installed as BYU's 12th president at 11 a.m. in the Marriott Center. The inauguration will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at byubroadcasting.org.

Wednesday, September 10
President Cecil O. Samuelson and his family will host a special "campus home evening" at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Center.
President Samuelson will conduct the event. His wife, Sharon, and their daughter, Sara, will participate in some of the activities, including a flannel-board presentation, a video presentation, Sister Samuelson conducting family or "campus" business, a musical performance by Vocal Point and a question-and-answer session with President Samuelson, who will teach the lesson, as well as challenge the Pre-Med Club in a game of "Operation."
Students, faculty and the BYU community are invited to attend the free event. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be provided for 10,000 people.
Thursday, September 11
The New Graduate Student Orientation will take place from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. An information fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Garden Court and will consist of booths set up by various on-campus organizations and one off-campus organization to show new graduate students what services they provide. The booths will be giving out tickets that will be used in a prize drawing during the evening dinner.
The "Evening for New Graduate Students" dinner and program will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom. This event will be conducted by Bonnie Brinton, dean of Graduate Studies. The featured speaker will be Janet S. Scharman, Student Life vice president, who will share intellectual insights and experiences on the path to becoming a scholar. Sharon Samuelson, wife of Brigham Young University President Cecil O. Samuelson, will speak at the first BYU Women meeting of the new school year at 1 p.m. in the Alumni House on the BYU campus. Sister Samuelson will address the organization's theme for the year, taken from Revelations 3:8: "I have set before thee an open door, and no man can close it." The exhibit "La Gente" by Ruby Chacon will be displayed in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium Gallery on level 1 from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 as part of the Visiting Artist Series and Hispanic Awareness Month. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Lee Library and the BYU Department of Visual Arts. On Thursday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. in the library auditorium, Chacon will be featured in a presentation about her works.

A dance assembly sponsored by the BYU Department of Dance will be performed at the BYU devotional at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. The performance will not be broadcast or rebroadcast on the BYU channels.
Wednesday, September 17
"The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez" will be shown in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at 5 p.m. as part of the library's Hispanic Film Series. The series is part of Hispanic Awareness Month. Halvor Clegg of the Spanish and Portuguese Department will introduce the film.
Tuesday, September 23
Helen Thomas, known as "The First Lady of the Press" and a White House correspondent for United Press International for more than 57 years, will speak at a BYU forum at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. The lecture will not be broadcast or rebroadcast on the BYU channels.

Arden Pope, a BYU economics professor, will speak at the Harold B. Lee Library's House of Learning Lecture at 2 p.m. in the Lee Library Auditorium. Pope's lecture is titled "Economics, Ethics, and Environmental Stewardship."

"La Ciudad" will be shown in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at 5 p.m. as part of the library's Hispanic Film Series. The series is part of Hispanic Awareness Month. Mark Grover, a Latin American studies bibliographer in the library, will introduce the film.
