Welcome Week ushers in new semester

Events take place Monday through Friday

Campus Life Events Management will sponsor Welcome Week, a series of student activities celebrating the beginning of Fall Semester, Monday, Aug. 29 through Friday, Sept. 2.

Activities will include:

  • MONDAY Noon - 1 p.m., Brigham Square

    BYUSA clubs, including Swing Kids, the Country Dance Club and the Break Dance Club, will perform during the lunch hour.

  • TUESDAY Noon - 1 p.m., Brigham Square

    The Cosmobile will be on hand for a slam dunk contest.

    7:30 p.m., Varsity Theater

    A free movie, "Hoosiers," will be shown in the Wilkinson Student Center. Admission is free, but students must have a ticket for admission. Tickets will be available at the WSC Information Desk beginning Aug. 29. Members of the BYU basketball team will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs.

  • WEDNESDAY Noon - 1 p.m., Brigham Square

    Karaoke.

    7:30 p.m., Varsity Theater

    A free movie, "The Rookie," will be shown in the Wilkinson Student Center. Admission is free, but students must have a ticket for admission. Tickets will be available at the WSC Information Desk beginning Aug. 29. Members of the BYU baseball team will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs.

  • THURSDAY Noon - 1 p.m., Brigham Square

    The Barbecue Club will be featured, along with a quarterback challenge.

    7:30 p.m., Varsity Theater

    A free movie, "Remember the Titans," will be shown in the Wilkinson Student Center. Admission is free, but students must have a ticket for admission. Tickets will be available at the WSC Information Desk beginning Aug. 29. Members of the BYU football team will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs.

  • FRIDAY Noon - 1 p.m., Brigham Square

    Games and prizes will be offered.

    8:30 - 11:30 p.m., Brigham Square

    To conclude Welcome Week, Campus Life Events Management will sponsor a Top 40s dance. Students can get in for $1 with student ID or $5 without.

    BYU study finds the real reasons why some people choose not to use artificial intelligence

    In a recent study, BYU professors Jacob Steffen and Taylor Wells explored why some people are still reluctant to use GenAI tools. While some people might worry about an AI apocalypse, Steffen and Wells found that most non-users are more concerned with issues like trusting the results, missing the human touch or feeling unsure if GenAI is ethical to use.
