Violinist Stacy Wetzel joins BYU Philharmonic for March 27 performance

Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” will be the featured selection when the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra performs a one-night engagement Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $11, or $8 with BYU or student ID, and can be purchased online at www.byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or in person at the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office.

Los Angeles Philharmonic violinist Stacy Wetzel will be featured soloist for Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 3. Wetzel attended the Juilliard School and the San Francisco Conservatory. She previously played in the San Francisco Symphony.

In the fall of 1995, she won the audition for a position in the second violin section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2001 Wetzel moved up to join the orchestra's first violin section and later made her concerto debut with the Philharmonic playing "Autumn" from Vivaldi's “Four Seasons” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

The program will also include the overture to “Tannhäuser” by Wagner.
