Val Hawks to present BYU devotional June 1

Val Hawks, associate professor of manufacturing engineering at Brigham Young University, will speak at a campus devotional Tuesday, June 1, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall on the BYU campus.

The devotional will be broadcast live on KBYU (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and on byubroadcasting.org.

It will be rebroadcast Sunday, June 6, on BYU-Radio at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. It will also be rebroadcast Sunday, June 13, on KBYU (Channel 11) at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on KBYU-FM (89.1) at 8 p.m.

Hawks has published more than 30 articles on his research, which focuses on quality management and continuous improvement methods, teaching methods in engineering education and ethical and moral conduct in engineering education.

He was recognized as the top department teacher at BYU from 1996-99.

Hawks earned his bachelor's degree from BYU in design engineering technology in 1980. He also earned a master's degree from Lehigh University in industrial engineering in 1986.

He has taught at BYU since 1985.
