Utah's Repertory Dance Theatre plans BYU concert Feb. 16

Utah’s own Repertory Dance Theatre will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Pardoe Theatre at Brigham Young University’s Harris Fine Arts Center.

Admission will be $8 with a student or BYU ID, $12 for alumni and seniors and $16 for the public. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting artix.byu.edu.

Titled “Time Capsule: A Century of Dance,” the show will take audiences through 100 years of modern dance. A multimedia performance will pay tribute to the creative and inventive spirit of legendary 20th century choreographers. Each piece in the show is tied to the social and political environment in which it was created.

Selections will include Doris Humphrey’s “Soaring,” Daniel Nagrin’s “Strange Hero,” Anna Sokolow’s “Lyric Suite,” Shapiro & Smith’s “Dance for Two Army Blankets” and Laura Dean’s “Sky Light.”

“RDT follows the development of American dance … with such total identification and vivacity that one could believe they actually were the pioneers of those early days with their passion for uprising and revolt against the conventions of the classics,” wrote Linda Zamboni of Die Presse in Vienna.
