U.S. chief justice and senate majority leader part of BYU's fall forum schedule

Brigham Young University’s schedule of fall forum assembly speakers will include the chief justice of the United States, the U.S. Senate majority leader and a National Book Award-winning author.

BYU's forums, like the one given Tuesday by famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, are designed to enhance components of students' general education and the idea of a liberal arts education itself. The hour-long assemblies, which occur three to four times per semester, are held in the Marriott Center and are televised on KBYU.

United States Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, who was elected majority leader following the 2006 elections, will speak on Oct. 9. Chief Justice John Roberts, who was confirmed as chief justice in September 2005, will speak on Oct. 23. Historian Nathaniel Philbrick, whose most recent book, Mayflower, was named one of the best books of 2006 by the New York Times Book Review, will speak on Nov. 6.
