UPDATE: BYU hosts ambassadors from Switzerland, Peru for lectures Sept. 12-13

Ambassadors from Switzerland and Peru will share their diplomatic insights at Brigham Young University this week as part of the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies Ambassadorial Lecture Series.

UPDATE: Swiss Ambassador Manuel Sager has a back injury and he is unable to come to Utah as planned. His Consul General Julius Anderegg will take over the Ambassador Sager's responsibilities in Utah.

His Excellency Manuel Sager, Swiss ambassador to the United States will discuss “Switzerland and the United States, a Partnership for Common Global Challenges” Wednesday, Sept. 12, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building. On Thursday, Sept. 13, in the same room, His Excellency Harold Winston Forsyth, Peruvian ambassador to the United States, will be speaking about “Peruvian-U.S. Relations” at 11 a.m.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend.

Sager was appointed ambassador to the United States in 2010. He previously headed the Political Affairs Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, where he was responsible for coordinating thematic foreign policy from 2008 to 2010. He was also executive director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London; head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs; head of the Coordination Office for Humanitarian Law for the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and the Partnership for Peace of the Directorate of International Law.

Forsyth was ambassador to China from 2009 to 2011 before he arrived in Washington, D.C., in 2011. Previously he served as ambassador to San Marino, Turkey, Italy and Colombia. He also served as consultant to the General Secretariat of the Andean Community of Nations, and was a permanent representative of Peru to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
